Committee Information:

Purpose
The Training Committee is responsible for planning, developing and conducting training activities that contribute to the professional advancement of financial aid professionals. This committee is also responsible for identifying and introducing initiatives that will promote diversity within the membership.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and conduct the annual New Aid Officers Workshop. The New Aid Officers Workshop is often planned in coordination with the national and regional offices of the U.S. Department of Education and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
  • Plan and conduct the annual ABC Workshop held prior to the annual conference.
  • Prepare budgets for any training activities under its charge. Budgets should include the following: expenditures; recommended on-time and late registration fees; and expected revenues from registration fees. These budgets and fees must be approved by a quorum of the Board.
  • Work to pair new financial aid professionals with industry veterans to develop effective partnerships.
  • Update, produce, and distribute the Mentor/Protégé Guide to all TASFAA members. This guide includes strategies for effective mentoring, informational questions to facilitate the relationship and an activity log to encourage data sharing.
  • Forward items of importance for posting to the Communication and Social Media Committee.

  • October - Present budget to Board, ABC Workshop
  • December - Subcommittee assignments, Listserve NAOW "Save the Date Message", Site representative meetings
  • January - Submit NAOW information to Web Services for webpage, request prior year online registration form from Web Services
  • February - Confirm online registration availability with Web Services.
  • March - Finalize meals and meeting room for NAOW.
  • April - Finalize trainers and presenters for NAOW.
  • May - NAOW
  • June - Request prior year ABC online registration form from Web Services.
  • July - Submit ABC information to Web Services for website, confirm status of online registration form with Web Services, and begin year-end report.
  • September - Finalize ABC trainers, presentation and agenda; construct following year budget recommendations.
