President-Elect's Message
By Rick Renshaw

The word for the month is “Volunteerism”. Volunteerism is the grease that lubricates the wheel we call TASFAA. TASFAA cannot operate without volunteers. Have you volunteered to serve on a committee for this next year? If not, please take a few minutes to visit the TASFAA web site and look at the different committees that provide the various services offered to our membership. Over a dozen committees are needed to coordinate all of the activities of our great association. One of the best ways to build an effective network, to learn more about regulations, to advance your professional career, and to enhance your resume is to volunteer.

Visit the Newsletters section of the TASFAA web site and read some of the newsletter to get a flavor of the work that TASFAA volunteers are doing, then go to the Volunteer Form and volunteer for a committee that fits your interests. You will be glad you did!

With the Texas State Legislature starting up in January and with several financial aid issues already on the agenda, this will be a tremendous opportunity for TASFAA to show its leadership in providing financial aid information to our state legislators. Please keep your eyes open for TASFAA listserv messages asking for member involvement in the legislative process. Your participation and support will be critical to our efforts to encourage the state to adequately fund and improve the state financial aid programs. Be prepared to let your voice be heard!

I am so honored that you selected me to serve you as President for 2008-09. I am looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible involved in the activities and events provided this year by TASFAA. Any ideas that you have to improve the service TASFAA provides to our member schools and our financial aid partners are welcome. The Board and I are here to serve you.
