TASFAA Member Focus
June Hagler, SMU
Submitted by Melet Leafgreen, Texas Christian University

Longtime TASFAA Board Member June Hagler will retire at the end of June after long service at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She will be sorely missed throughout our community.

Here are some words of wisdom from June.

“I hope I am remembered after 21 years at SMU as caring about the students and doing my job as best I could. I would like to express my appreciation to all the TASFAA membership for the wonderful opportunities I had to grow and learn during the time I served on the TASFAA Board. I would wish for everyone in our Texas financial aid family to get involved somewhere, somehow. You will find before you know it you have become passionate about our mission of helping students realize their dreams of higher education. Your passion can take many different paths since all our jobs are so complex. Find your path and enjoy the ride. It will never be the same old, same old journey!”

On a personal note, this contributor would like to pay tribute to a woman who has literally given a large piece of her life – time, sweat, and imagination – to the college students of North Texas. Nine years ago, I started in this business without a clue. From this seasoned administrator at the “rival” school across the way, I received much support, encouragement, and tough love. She consistently finds that elusive balance all of us in this business are looking for – help without enabling, use professional judgment with compassion, but never fudge on regulations. Thanks for teaching me the basics, June – I use them every day!
