President’s Message
By Lisa Blazer, PhD

I can’t believe that July 4th weekend is right around the corner! What’s happened to summer? Do you get the same question that I do from friends and family members? “What do you do during the summer? It must be a slow time for you, right?” That question drives me a little bonkers because it is our busiest time. People are so surprised that summer is hectic. The lazy days of summer definitely do not apply to professionals in financial aid.

With that said, TASFAA is certainly not experiencing the lazy days of summer. We just had a great board meeting in May and got a chance to connect with the New Aid Officers Workshop participants. They are an awesome group of new professionals that I hope will get involved in TASFAA. Our next board meeting is scheduled for July in Dallas and it will be jam-packed with committee information and plans for the future.

While all of us are preparing for the start of the fall term, we also have committees that are working on projects for the fall. The Fall Conference Committee is in full swing and creating a great agenda. Don’t forget to register for the conference in Houston scheduled for October 8-10th. The title “A Time of Change: Embrace, Believe, Achieve” could not be more appropriate to what’s happening in our financial aid world today. This will be a great opportunity to engage in dialogue and learn about how to deal with our ever-changing world, so check out www.tasfaa.org to register today! Remember you can register today and pay later, so get your registration in and your hotel room reserved.

Our Training committee is recuperating from the New Aid Officers Workshop and also preparing for the ABC Workshop scheduled in October. Our Early Awareness committee is also hard at work preparing for the High School Counselors workshops that will take place in the fall. Again, this is one of the great opportunities TASFAA has to network and provide information to individuals that work with students. The Regional Training committee will be gearing up for the NASFAA Fall Decentralized Training. Other committees are also hard at work ensuring we have newsletters, financial information, future sites for conferences and training and web resources. We are a busy bunch of people here in Texas!

As you can see, TASFAA is hard at work during the lazy days of summer. Check out what’s happening and don’t forget to get involved this next year. Enjoy the rest of your summer and we look forward to seeing you in the fall!
