TASFAA Website: Did you know…
Submitted by Irma Walsh, University of Texas at El Paso

Getting married, divorced, thinking about going back to your maiden name... the thought of having to go to the social security office – waiting in line and then thinking that you are only going to have to submit an application with the proper documentation (marriage certificate, divorce decree,…) presto your last name has been changed. Oh no – it’s not that easy! The customer representative at the Social Security office will provide you with the form that will need to be completed but will then tell you that you must first change your name with the Department of Public Safety before you can request a name change to your social security records and you must wait to obtain your new driver’s license (with the name change) before you can go back and start the process all over again.

And you cannot change your last name with your payroll office, your financial institution and some credit card companies until you have officially changed it with the Social Security office—a sometimes lengthy and frustrating process. But there is some comfort in knowing that there is no long line, no waiting for a response from one entity before you can change your name with TASFAA.

You can change your name with a few mouse clicks and presto it’s done. The easy steps are as follows:

  • Go to www.tasfaa.com.
  • Click on Member Services.
  • Click on Update Your Member Profile.
  • Enter your username and password (if you don’t remember, you can have it sent to you via email).
  • Make any necessary changes (correct first name, change last name, job title, etc…)

Can life be any easier?
