Make plans to join your SWASFAA colleagues at the fall conference being held at the Renaissance Hotel in Tulsa, Oklahoma November 8-10. Come and enjoy the theme “Putting on the Ritz – 2006.” The Boot Camp will be held prior to the conference November 6-8, 2006. New financial aid administrators are encouraged to join the “Greenhorn Round-Up” and learn how to rope in all those financial aid questions.

The 5th annual SWASFAA/SASFAA Mid Level Workshop was held June 25-27, 2006 at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. The theme was “Shaping Your Future”. Sixty-three participants attended the training. Eight were from the SWASFAA region.

Please update your database information on the SWASFAA website. This is very helpful in determining service awards.

Be a volunteer. Jackie LaChapelle will be looking for SWASFAA volunteers for next year. Be on the alert for the new volunteer form to go live on the web site.

Make sure to view the latest SCAN newsletter. Joe Wilcox from UT-Austin is doing an awesome job with it.

Please be aware the Department of Education will be holding four public regional hearings for interested parties to discuss the agenda for the negotiated rulemaking sessions. These hearings will be held on:

• September 19, 2006, at the University of California-Berkeley in Berkeley, California;
• October 5, 2006, at the Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois;
• November 2, 2006, at the Royal Pacific Hotel Conference Center in Orlando, Florida; and
• November 8, 2006, at the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, DC.
