TG
Update
By Cynthia Mayberry, Manager, Texas
Region
Greetings everyone! The Texas team of account executives would like
to extend its best to all of you through the coming holidays and as
you prepare for the new year. There are many exciting news items to
share with you, and as always, please contact me or your account executive
if you have any questions, comments, or concerns at (800) 252-9743.
Familiar faces, new roles help shape the future of customer
service at TG
Customer service at TG has been reengineered to provide even more flexibility
and enhanced service to TG's school and lender partners. TG considered
feedback from business partners and advisory groups to determine the
most effective way to simplify the contact points and organization of
customer service teams. As a result, several of TG's financial aid experts
have taken on new responsibilities.
To learn more about this exciting development, read the article in Shoptalk
Online at www.tgslc.org/shoptalk/2005/st329/st32903.cfm#roles.
Resources related to students affected by recent hurricanes
Undoubtedly this has been a challenging year for everyone. Texas schools,
lenders, servicers, and other industry partners have demonstrated their
commitment and dedication to students and their families through the
recent hurricane disasters affecting the Gulf coast. Throughout our
travels and conversations with many of you in the late summer and fall
season, we have heard countless stories and seen the dedication as you
have adjusted your operations and activities to assist those in need.
Please know that we are there for you as well, and we thank you for
all you have done for those affected.
If you haven’t had an opportunity, we encourage you to visit
our Web page on industry-related resources available at www.tgslc.org/abouttg/disaster_relief.cfm.
We update this page as we are notified of additional resources, and
we hope that it will assist you in serving your families and students
as they rebuild for the future.
Keep track of the latest developments in Reauthorization
Many of you have undoubtedly continued to track developments related
to Reauthorization throughout the fall season. The Higher Education
Act (HEA) authorizes the major federal student aid programs that are
responsible for the majority of financial assistance to postsecondary
students. To encourage growth and change, it must be re-approved or
"reauthorized" by Congress every five years. The U.S. Congress
is currently in the process of reauthorizing this critical piece of
legislation.
One informative resource TG offers is our reauthorization web page,
available at www.tgslc.org/reauth/index.cfm.
This page is updated regularly, so you may want to bookmark it on your
web browser and visit frequently for the latest information.
Dealing with the aftermath of this year’s Consolidation
rush
Consolidation. In recent months, we have heard this word repeated over
and over again as thousands of borrowers, including many thousands of
borrowers still in school, rushed to consolidate prior to the increase
in student loan interest rates. Now that the dust has settled, what
will the aftermath of the in-school consolidation rush be? To assist
our industry partners, Shoptalk Online created a new series
examining the issues that the FFELP industry will need to be cognizant
of, now that this new generation of "in-school" consolidation
loan borrowers has emerged.
Below are links to the articles; please share them with your colleagues
as these issues become topics of discussion:
Updated School Fact Sheets available
We have updated the online HTML version of the School Fact Sheets
to include the recently released ED FY 2003 cohort default rates. You
may find your School Fact Sheet at www.tgslc.org/tgslc/schlfs/.
TG provides the School Fact Sheets as a collection of a broad
range of data for many postsecondary institutions in Texas. Each School
Fact Sheet is a convenient reference that can help students and
parents, as well as the financial aid community, learn more about a
particular school and its utilization of student aid programs.
TG reaches milestone in Speakers Bureau training
TG recently celebrated its 500th Speakers Bureau training event at the
Court Reporting Institute of Dallas. Darron Grussendorf, senior customer
trainer for business partner services, delivered the session Crafting
the Keys to Customer Service to the financial aid office staff.
Since its inception in 2001, the TG Speakers Bureau has helped tens
of thousands of financial aid professionals nationwide improve their
skills by sharing industry knowledge and offering professional development
training. The Speakers Bureau now includes more than 50 sessions on
topics that range from industry knowledge, to the future of financial
aid, to enhancing professional development skills such as leadership
and team building.
