Early
Awareness Committee offers Resources for Middle School Presentations The TASFAA Early Awareness (EA) Committee has new “tools” available for those giving presentations to middle school students and parents of middle school students. These resources include Powerpoint presentations that can be downloaded, and items with the “I’m Going to College” theme on colorful student certificates, pens, and flying disc for give-aways. Presentations, available in English and in Spanish for parents, come complete with speaker’s notes. Persons giving middle school presentations can order these items free of charge. The order form, pictures of the materials and the presentations will be available by visiting the Resources section of www.tasfaa.org. The EA Committee recommends that the presentations for students with the “I’m Going to College” items be given in small group or classroom settings of no more than 30. A best practices guide will be developed in spring 2006. The items, all designed by the EA Committee, are made possible by funding from TASFAA, ATLE, and TG. “Planning is important for middle school students – especially those who aren’t yet thinking about college,” says Richard Sapp, director for pre-college success at TG, and EA Committee chair for 04-05. “We’re excited to offer these “Going to College” items to get these students thinking about college now – the earlier the better.” As part of the push to reach more middle school students, the EA Committee asks that TASFAA members join us by committing to give presentations to middle school students and their parents. All the information needed is just a few clicks away. For more information, contact Caesar Ramos, EA Chair for 05-06, at (806) 324-4124 or email at cesarr@ppslc.com. |
