President's Message
By Pat Jost

Congratulations Earl Hudgins! Earl received the NASFAA State and Leadership Award for the SWASFAA region during the NASFAA Conference. “One individual is selected from each region and exhibits high integrity and character, shows creative leadership and inspires and encourages others to actively participate in professional development, has made outstanding contributions at the regional and state level over a sustained period of time and supports the goals and objectives of NASFAA.” Wow! Earl, you make me tired.

Congratulations to all of the candidates who accepted the nomination to run for office. Your acceptance shows your willingness to serve our organization. Thank you! As I write this message, the votes are being tallied and verified. Regardless of the outcome, all of you are winners. I look forward to working with each of you next year.

The Financial Aid Advisory Committee met at the THECB headquarters in Austin on August 19, 2005. The committee will adopt procedures for setting the terms of office for the members of the committee and offer recommendations for program and reporting requirements, changes to agreements between the CB and the institutions and ensure the CB is receiving the data needed to respond to requests from the Legislative regarding student aid programs.

I am pleased to announce that Mack Adams and his wife Martha will join us in El Paso on October 6. We will pay special tribute to him and the past presidents during the luncheon on Thursday. The 2004-2005 Board will meet on October 4 from noon until 5:00 pm and from 8:00 am until 11:30 am on October 5. The 2005-2006 Board will meet on October 6 from 5:00 pm until 5:45 pm. On October 6, we will adopt an operating budget, elect a Vice President, and discuss our goals for the next year. You are invited to attend.

I look forward to seeing you in El Paso.
