TG Submits Sunset Self-Evaluation Report (SER)
by George Torres, TG

On August 14, 2003, Texas Guaranteed (TG) submitted its Self Evaluation Report (SER) to the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission, marking the beginning of TG’s second review by the Commission. As an entity created by the Texas Legislature, TG is subject to the Texas Sunset Act.

The Sunset Act generally requires that each agency or entity established under state law be reviewed every 12 years by the Sunset Advisory Commission and be “reauthorized” during the regular session of the state legislature immediately following the review. TG’s review will occur prior to the 79th Regular Session of the Texas Legislature, which convenes on January 11, 2005.

TG was established by the Texas Legislature in 1979 and was first reauthorized in 1988-89 by the 69th Texas Legislature following TG’s first Sunset Review. The reauthorizing statute resulted in the establishment of the TG Lender and School Advisory Committees and provided TG with the flexibility to engage in alternative revenue generating activities.

The Sunset process is designed so that the public and an entity’s customer and partner groups may provide input as to how well or poorly an entity performs its functions as well as suggestions for improvement. TG has made its SER available for viewing on TG’s corporate Web site, TG Online, at www.tgslc.org/resources/sunset_review.cfm.

TG invites its customers to submit comments and suggestions to the Sunset Advisory Commission throughout the review process. To submit comments on TG or to learn more about the Sunset process, visit www.sunset.state.tx.us, or contact George Torres, TG assistant vice president for governmental relations, at george.torres@tgslc.org.
