...my lottery winnings did not involve financial wealth. What I gained is many times more valuable. |
The Day I Won the Lottery All of us at some time have wondered what it would be like to win the lottery. Having to decide what to do with all of our new found wealth is a problem we all would not mind facing. On Wednesday, March 20th, I won the lottery. But my lottery winnings did not involve financial wealth. What I gained is many times more valuable. You see, it was that day I learned I had Lymphoma. If you are wondering why I consider that day as winning the lottery, I don't blame you. However, it was not only I learned of my cancer, but it was also the beginning of what became the greatest amount of support and kindness you can imagine from a group of people. To this day, I cannot express enough how much everyone's support helped me get through it all. As the treatments progressed and became more challenging, I enthusiastically looked forward to corresponding with colleagues. Many have said how important attitude is when dealing with an illness. In my case, each and every card, call, and message during the last four months helped me maintain the positive outlook to beat this. In closing, I just want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. I consider it a privilege to be a part of such a special industry. It is difficult to imagine another like it. And though this has been the biggest challenge of my life, I didn't do it alone. I had a big crowd helping, which makes me the lucky one. Sincerely, Paul Wright Compass Bank Student Lending |
