CLAIR “MICKI” ROEMER
SERVICE TO TASFAA
Inducted October 7,2004
Clair “Micki” Roemer has provided leadership to
the financial aid profession on a number of levels. She is a
past president of both TASFAA (86-87) and SWASFAA (91-92) and
served as the NASFAA National Chair (93-94). She has conducted
numerous training opportunities throughout her career and has
been a mentor to many. Micki does not meet a stranger and is
known throughout TASFAA and the industry as a financial aid expert,
administrator, facilitator, trainer/presenter, mentor and friend
to all. She has testified many times before Congress and for
a number of hearings, both federal and state, in an effort to
bring legislators, the Department of Education, The TX Higher
Education Coordinating Board, guarantors, and servicers into
alignment with the needs of students, parents, and financial
aid professionals. After many years as a financial aid administrator
she knows the issues of the industry. In her current role with
the Department of Education she will continue to exhaust every
effort to stimulate positive changes that will benefit the delivery
of student financial aid, making education accessible for our
target population.
Micki is a teacher. Her undergraduate degree is in Secondary
Education, but all of her lessons and advice come from the heart.
She is eager to share her inexhaustible financial aid knowledge
and she does so without intimidating her audience. She employs
her infectious sense of humor to relieve the high stress nature
of the topics whether she is being an advocate, trainer, mentor,
or friend.
Mentoring is second nature to Micki. In that role she tirelessly
encourages growth and self-assurance in her colleagues while
developing their own independence and self direction for their
role in higher education. Micki also understands that it is critical
to the balance and strength of TASFAA’s mission, as well
as our whole profession, to have a membership actively involved
and in various stages of development to fill the many opportunities
to serve. She knows that none of us are flawless, but she gently
nurtures the possibilities that dwell within all of us.
Micki takes the meaning of optimism to a higher level. She is
unable to comprehend any worthwhile goal that is unobtainable.
Regardless of the project, situation, or conditions, her devotion
to finding a solution is paramount. Through her bubbly, energetic
personality, she emits a warm approachable style that instills
a trust that is able to disarm or persuade anyone. Her many accomplishments
and service to TASFAA will be continued in her role with the
Department of Education. Induction into the TASFAA Hall of Fame
is an expression of appreciation and recognition for Clair “Micki” Roemer’s
many years of exemplary service to TASFAA’s membership
and mission.
